Jessica and David had a beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony at The Manor in Everett/Lynnwood, WA. Jessica and David chose Nora Jones’ “Come Away With Me” as their music video song and I think it fits perfectly with their wedding. Congratulations Jessica and David and thanks again for your patience.

We normally have Life Group meetings every other Saturday. Today was Steve and Jison’s turn to lead the meeting, but Allison Suan decided to make a surprise appearance into this world. She showed up, after 19 hours of labor, with a full head of hair and made everyone that saw her smile. These pictures were taken only three hours after Allison was born! Edgar celebrated his birthday with a grand Armenian birthday celebration at a European banquet hall in Bellevue, WA. Edgar was referred to us by Sergey and Elona whose wedding we photographed last year at Bastyr University Chapel. Armenians definitely know how to celebrate with lots of amazing food, beautiful woman, drinks, and music! It was great to see Edgar so happy. If you were a guest at the wedding and want to see all of the pictures please click HERE (Password Required). If you don’t know the password please email me at photo@thkimdesigns.com.

It seems like so many people I know are affected by this thing called cancer. A friend and roommate of mine in college named Kevin was the first person I knew who died from cancer. I still remember those days like it was yesterday. I still think about him every time I hear about cancer. More recently, I’ve been hearing more and more stories of people affected by cancer. Life isn’t just about living, but it’s also about dieing. To everyone who is fighting this unforgiving disease and to everyone who has been affected by it, my prayers are with you.
These pictures were taken by Romain Blanquart of the Detroit Free Press. He was awarded 2006 Michigan Free Press Photographer of the Year honors for not just the following, but many other amazing pictures. Click here for the rest of the pictures of Katie Kirkpatrick, who married Nick Godwin, before succumbing to cancer. Click here for an article from The Oakland Press.
- Story summary:Katie Kirkpatrick, 21, held off cancer to celebrate the happiest day of her life. Katie had chased cancer, once only to have it return-to clog her lungs and grab hold of her heart. Breathing was difficult now, she had to use oxygen. The pain in her back was so intense it broke through the morphine that was supposed to act as a shield. Her organs were shutting down but it would not stop her from marrying Nick Godwin, 23, who was in love with Katie since 11th grade.

We love it when we receive praise from our wedding clients! Casey and Rob got married in the summer of 2006, in front of a white picket fenced church in Edmonds, WA. I hadn’t heard from them ever since I sent their wedding DVDs, but I received a letter yesterday and it said:
Dear Todd,
Rob and I were showing some of our friends our wedding video and it brought back such great memories of our wedding day. You really captured all the details. You were so professional and great to work with. We have recommended you to everyone we know who is getting married! Videography is such an important piece that is often overlooked. Thanks for doing such an amazing job with our DVD, it’s priceless.
Thank you again,
Rob and Casey Wilson
What I remember most about creating Casey and Rob’s wedding video was that Casey’s father had passed away before he could give his daughter away. In remembrance of him, they placed a lighted candle in the church sanctuary and I used that in their music video to represent him as well. I thought it would hold significance and I think Casey appreciated that. I am a bit of a perfectionist so I tend to spend a lot of time on details when I edit video, I am glad Casey noticed.
Currently, I’m behind schedule in editing some wedding videos and the fact I am having problems with one of my eyes isn’t helping, but this letter lifted my spirits. Thanks Casey!

It’s 7 AM and I’ve been editing wedding videos all night. I’m still very much a night person even though I’ve been trying to change that. Sometimes, it’s difficult to change no matter how hard you try. I found this picture that I took a couple of years ago. I think I’ll call it “One Nation Under God” Can a nation be changed? I am an American citizen, but I often wonder how my life would be different if my parents never came to America. In some ways, Korea is more modern than America. Seoul, the capital of South Korea, makes Seattle look like a small town. Yet, some of the insecurities of being small form the mentality of many Koreans that I know. Would I still be the same person I am today if I grew up in Korea? Would I be a better person or not? How would I be different? So many questions for someone who hasn’t slept all night. Here’s more. How will America change in ten years? How will America not change in 10 years? I better get back to editing those videos before my eyes get too tired. Rebekah’s alarm clock just went off.

I just purchased a Joby Gorillapod! I first saw this amazing flexible tripod at a camera store and thought, “What a great idea! Why didn’t I think of that!”
As a photographer/videographer I can see so many uses for the Joby Gorillapod. When doing videos, sometimes you want to keep the video camera in a location that has a good vantage point, but a traditional tripod won’t do. Using the flexible legs of the Joby Gorillapod to steady the camera and keep it level will do wonders! It’s obvious how terrific the Gorillapod could be for photographers, but I thought it could also be used to hold an off camera flash so I purchased the flash clip (adapter) as well. After I try it out, I’ll put up another post. Joby’s website is currently offering free ground shipping and with this promotion code: “GorillapodLOVE” You can receive an extra 15% discount through 2007!

Gary Fong, inventer of the Lightsphere for camera flash diffusion just released his new invention called the Gary Fong Whaletail. You can read about it and watch a little video on Gary Fong’s blog. He’s joking around that it looks like a toilet bowl aka Fong John. I didn’t use the Lightsphere much, but I know plenty of wedding photographers who do. Gary Fong is a master of marketing. I could learn a few things from him. He owns a home in Seattle, Cali and BC…
Susie Hamidi of Susie Hamidi Photography told me about Urban Unveiled. It’s a premier wedding event, organized by Sharlane Chase, Clare Marie, Della Chen, and Sandra Coan, to showcase top local wedding vendors in the Seattle area. Susie’s a VIP so she invited me to come =) It took place on Thursday March 8th at the Palace Ballroom in downtown Seattle. We have a wedding reception in April at the Palace Ballroom so I wanted to check it out. The highlight of the evening, besides talking with my PUG friends (Jeff La Plante and Brian and Jennifer Hartman) was seeing the exquisite wedding gown collection of Luly Yang. Aren’t they wonderful. I was watching the “soon to be brides” that were in attendance watch the beautiful models and I really started to understand how brides must feel in anticipation of their wedding day.

A picture of Luly Yang - top designer for sure.

Thanks Susie… You’re so cool!

We photographed Sharon, Nathan and Aiden at Pine Lake Park in Sammamish, WA. Sharon is sister’s with Angela, whose wedding we had the honor of being a part of. Sharon wanted to have some pictures of Aiden before his baby teeth fell out. The boys are so full of personality and energy. Aren’t the boys just adorable? They were really fun to work with and you can see how happy the boys are with their mom! Too bad daddy had to work that day. You can access the rest of their pictures by clicking here (password protected).
