Last Saturday I had my cataract surgery. Doctor Lim Seung Jung told me it went successfully. I went in last Monday for a follow up and he told me everything looks good. I can see things far away pretty well now. It isn’t perfect, but maybe with a little more recovery time it will get even better. I was told before the surgery though that I would need glasses to see things close up. I think they said after 2 months when the eye has fully healed I can get glasses. The surgery itself lasted only about 15 minutes and it wasn’t painful. It was a bit uncomfortable, but not painful.

They gave me pumpkin soup for lunch.

They actually had a TV outside the surgery room where people could view the operation as it was going on. I took my little digital camera to video record the operation since I’m fascinated by weird things like that, but I didnt have time to give my mother in law instructions on how to operate the camera so I didn’t get video footage of my operation. After my surgery though another patient was getting an Artisan lens implant and I had a chance to record a few seconds of their surgery. I have been slowly getting back on the computer to see if I can work and I can see things clearly, but my eye gets tired pretty quickly at this stage. It should get better soon….

I was supposed to have my cataract surgery last week, but the doctor who was taking me had some family emergency so it got delayed until this week. I went in yesterday thinking it was going to be a simple operation, but I guess they have to do a whole bunch of tests before the actual operation. I think I had over 15 separate eye tests done. One of the complications for me is I had Lasik eye surgery done back in 1999 in Canada and they closed down. I guess having pre-lasik data of my eye will greatly aid the cataract surgeon in doing a better job. Unfortunately, I dont have that data at the moment. They also took some blood out for a blood test. The clinic is called Seran Eye Center located in downtown Seoul near COEX. The actual cataract surgery is scheduled for this Saturday (Friday in Seattle) at 10 AM. Thanks everyone for your support and prayers…
