Joshua is finishing up grad school at the University of Michigan. Jenny, an alumni of UW in Seattle, is working in Washington DC. How did they meet? You will have to ask them that yourself, but I could tell they are perfect for each other. Jenny’s personality is so bright and she has an amazing smile, but I think it’s her smarts that attracted Jenny to Joshua. Joshua is clearly intelligent, but I think it’s his generosity and soft spoken nature that must have attracted him to Jenny. I could be wrong, but it sounded good anyway =).
We took these pictures in Fremont and ended up near the water front at Myrtle Edwards Park. Towards the end of the engagement portrait session, as we were walking back to the car, I found out how small this world really is. It’s true what they say about 2 degrees of separation or was it 5 degrees or 6? What happened was, I asked Joshua and Jenny where they would live after Joshua graduated with his doctorate in electrical engineering and they said possibly in California. I jokingly told Joshua he should work for Samsung. The reason I said this was because my wife’s cousin graduated from MIT and went to go work for Samsung. I went on to tell Joshua that Samsung was sending our cousin to Stanford. Long story short, Joshua asked me what his name was because my wife’s cousin sounded familiar to him. I told Joshua and amazingly enough, they both went to Seoul National University and were good friends. I tell you… it’s a small world after all. Julie and Greg had their first date at Alki Beach so that’s where we met for their engagement portraits. I told them to bring their smiles and they brought plenty of that. I have to thank Rhona and Bennett for referring such a terrific couple to us.

There was a time when I was in the fine jewelry business. That was about 12 years ago in Tacoma and I learned all you can about diamonds and wedding rings. I even took some courses with the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). When I bought my wife a wedding ring (pictured below), I fell in love with the design of the ring from one of Simon G’s wedding ring collection.

Today, I went shopping for wedding rings all over again because my wife’s cousin is planning to purchase an engagement wedding ring and he wanted my help. First, we went to EE Robbins in Seattle because we’ve heard so many good things about them. They were totally professional, offered us drinks and things to eat and explained everything about the 4C’s of a great diamond. You know what they are… cut, clarity, color and carat weight. They carry the Simon G collection as well as designs from other well known wedding ring designers. Ask for Chelsea if you go in to the downtown Seattle store, she has a wonderfully bright personality and of course she is very knowledgeable about diamonds.
Next we went to Tiffany and Co. in the Pacific Place Shopping Center. The sales consultant had slightly more of a we’re the best attitude [nose level slightly higher =], but he was very accommodating and helpful. I really couldn’t complain and there’s a reason why he was that way. Tiffany rings are absolutely beautiful. My wife’s cousin fell in love with one of their rings right away until he saw the price tag. Fortunately, Tiffany’s offers all kinds of various combinations of diamond quality and size so the sales consultant was able to locate one with the same design in the price point he had in mind. We’re supposed to go see it on Tuesday when they ship it here from the East coast.
Following that, we went to Cartier to see what engagement rings they had to offer. Wow, this time we saw security guards right next to the sales consultant. A wonderfully proud lady helped us out and she was very helpful too. She was very proud of Cartier. We also stopped by Nordstrom’s fine jewelry department, but their collection was limited.
I have a feeling my wife’s cousin will go with either the Tiffany engagement ring or go with a design we found at EE Robbins. By the way, going from white gold to platinum raised the price by $1000. What in the world? Something only a woman can appreciate I guess.
Oh… so if you want a custom made engagement wedding ring of the highest quality you should check out J. Lewis Jewelry in Bellevue, WA. Our wedding clients, Alice and Kevin, had their wedding ring custom made there and it turned out wonderful. It’s pictured below… It’ll cost you though so be prepared.

Tommy and Mai had their engagement pictures taken at Kubota Gardens in Seattle. We had a wedding there earlier this year and it’s a great location for outdoor weddings and portraits. I do have to say though, that the mosquito were out in full force as I probably got over 10 mosquito bites. Trinh and Tony were so fun to photograph! I wasn’t feeling 100 percent because I was getting over a cold, but Tony was so funny I forgot I was sick. Trinh was terrific with her wonderful smile and you could really tell how much these two were made for each other. Their wedding is in August in Seattle and we look forward to it. These engagement pictures were taken at the always popular Bellevue Botanical Garden.

Any date where there’s a wedding involved is pretty special, but the blessed couple we are going to photograph on July 7, 2007 is Alice and Kevin. Alice called us early last year to reserve the most popular wedding date in 2007. We had the honor of photographing Alice and Kevin’s engagement pictures last week after a couple of reschedules due to rain. We met in Fremont and eventually made our way to Discovery Park for a few more shots before the sun set. It wasn’t too difficult to take these terrific engagement pictures as both our models were so beautiful! We can’t wait for their wedding on 7/7/07.

Frank and Tracy met each other through the type of work they do and it’s obvious from these engagement pictures that they were so meant for each other. I felt like I was a photographer for the National Rifle Association. The first part of the pictures were taken at the firing range of the Seattle Police Department and the second half were taken at Volunteer Park Conservatory. We look forward to a fun and exciting wedding at the Chapel on Echo Bay on Fox Island. To view all photos from the engagement session CLICK HERE (password required).

Beth and Scott found us through a business networking site called Biznik, based in Seattle. Biznik is similar to a networking site, my friend James Sun runs, called Zoodango. It is funny how we are all connected and life’s web brings us all together. I wouldn’t have found out about Biznik if one of their leaders wasn’t making some comments about Zoodango on a different blog. Of course, I signed up to both and I’ve received 3 referrals already from Biznik! I have got to say, it works! If you’re a professional in the Seattle area or elsewhere, I encourage you to sign up to both!
Now… Back to Beth and Scott! Beth and Scott are both artists. Scott is a chef who runs a catering business called Elemental Catering and Beth does some really cool design work which you’ve got to see at her website: www.sukiyockey.net
Anyway, I thought it was a compliment that out of all the photographers out there, these artists chose me to be their wedding photographer! How honoring is that! Their wedding is later this month at Kubota Gardens and their reception is at the fabulous Palace Ballroom where Urban Unveiled took place last month.
