Hey Honey! Happy 2nd Anniversary! Has it already been that long? I can’t believe it’s been 2 years already. I thank God for you. It’s true what they say that two become one. We grow more alike everyday and especially through the difficult times, God breaks us down so that we can become a stronger couple. I have learned so much through you. You have an amazing heart for others and your giving spirit is something I need to learn more of. You amaze me, you touch me and I can’t live without you. I love you. I know this is mushy putting this on our blog, but oh wells! =)))

Joshua is finishing up grad school at the University of Michigan. Jenny, an alumni of UW in Seattle, is working in Washington DC. How did they meet? You will have to ask them that yourself, but I could tell they are perfect for each other. Jenny’s personality is so bright and she has an amazing smile, but I think it’s her smarts that attracted Jenny to Joshua. Joshua is clearly intelligent, but I think it’s his generosity and soft spoken nature that must have attracted him to Jenny. I could be wrong, but it sounded good anyway =).
We took these pictures in Fremont and ended up near the water front at Myrtle Edwards Park. Towards the end of the engagement portrait session, as we were walking back to the car, I found out how small this world really is. It’s true what they say about 2 degrees of separation or was it 5 degrees or 6? What happened was, I asked Joshua and Jenny where they would live after Joshua graduated with his doctorate in electrical engineering and they said possibly in California. I jokingly told Joshua he should work for Samsung. The reason I said this was because my wife’s cousin graduated from MIT and went to go work for Samsung. I went on to tell Joshua that Samsung was sending our cousin to Stanford. Long story short, Joshua asked me what his name was because my wife’s cousin sounded familiar to him. I told Joshua and amazingly enough, they both went to Seoul National University and were good friends. I tell you… it’s a small world after all. Green Lake Park in Seattle may be the city’s most popular location for those looking for a place to run or walk, but my personal favorite park of late is the 1.6 mile path along Elliott Bay that Myrtle Edwards Park offers. I normally side park near the “DNA” like Amgen double helix bridge that provides access from Elliott Avenue to the paved path of Myrtle Edwards Park. There usually aren’t too many people along the path, unlike Green Lake Park which can get busy with traffic from runners, walkers, cyclists and roller bladers. The best thing about running along Elliott Bay is the scenery continually changes. You can see the Olympic Mountains in the distance, sail boats in the ocean and amazing sunsets like the one pictured above. Seattle is pretty amazing.
The end of the path along Myrtle Edwards Park leads to the new SAM Olympic Sculpture Park. The picture above was taken after I had finished my run and my wife caught up with me from her walk. The picture was taken with our little Fuji F20 in the sunset setting. The camera was set to 10 second delay shutter resting on a concrete seat. The settings were iso 100 and f8. I don’t remember how long shutter speed was, but the concrete seat acted like a tripod so there wasnt any vibration. I cropped the picture slightly and that’s all! It’s got a slight 3D look to it I think, but the suns doing amazing things to the clouds, sky and water.
When we were walking back to our car, I noticed a photographer doing what appeared to be a “trash the dress” session with a handsome couple in the water. I couldnt tell if it was an engagement session or a follow up to the couples wedding day session, but it looked fun.

There was a time when I was in the fine jewelry business. That was about 12 years ago in Tacoma and I learned all you can about diamonds and wedding rings. I even took some courses with the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). When I bought my wife a wedding ring (pictured below), I fell in love with the design of the ring from one of Simon G’s wedding ring collection.

Today, I went shopping for wedding rings all over again because my wife’s cousin is planning to purchase an engagement wedding ring and he wanted my help. First, we went to EE Robbins in Seattle because we’ve heard so many good things about them. They were totally professional, offered us drinks and things to eat and explained everything about the 4C’s of a great diamond. You know what they are… cut, clarity, color and carat weight. They carry the Simon G collection as well as designs from other well known wedding ring designers. Ask for Chelsea if you go in to the downtown Seattle store, she has a wonderfully bright personality and of course she is very knowledgeable about diamonds.
Next we went to Tiffany and Co. in the Pacific Place Shopping Center. The sales consultant had slightly more of a we’re the best attitude [nose level slightly higher =], but he was very accommodating and helpful. I really couldn’t complain and there’s a reason why he was that way. Tiffany rings are absolutely beautiful. My wife’s cousin fell in love with one of their rings right away until he saw the price tag. Fortunately, Tiffany’s offers all kinds of various combinations of diamond quality and size so the sales consultant was able to locate one with the same design in the price point he had in mind. We’re supposed to go see it on Tuesday when they ship it here from the East coast.
Following that, we went to Cartier to see what engagement rings they had to offer. Wow, this time we saw security guards right next to the sales consultant. A wonderfully proud lady helped us out and she was very helpful too. She was very proud of Cartier. We also stopped by Nordstrom’s fine jewelry department, but their collection was limited.
I have a feeling my wife’s cousin will go with either the Tiffany engagement ring or go with a design we found at EE Robbins. By the way, going from white gold to platinum raised the price by $1000. What in the world? Something only a woman can appreciate I guess.
Oh… so if you want a custom made engagement wedding ring of the highest quality you should check out J. Lewis Jewelry in Bellevue, WA. Our wedding clients, Alice and Kevin, had their wedding ring custom made there and it turned out wonderful. It’s pictured below… It’ll cost you though so be prepared.

Edit: Today is August 30, 2007 and it is being reported all the remaining hostages have been freed. Thank you for your prayers.
Because this is my business blog and mostly about photography and weddings, I’ve held back on writing a post about something that is happening in the world right now that is affecting me. A friend of Rebekah and mine, who we knew from our time in Central Asia is currently one of 21 hostages kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Her name is Lim Hyun Ju and she is a nurse. She went to Afghanistan a little over 3 years ago to serve at a hospital and do missionary work. 2 of the hostages have already been killed and the Taliban are threatening to kill more unless their demands are met. It is a very difficult political and human situation with none of the answers being easy. Would you pray for the safe release of the remaining hostages, wisdom of the leaders to make the right decisions and also for the suffering people of war torn Afghanistan. Thank you and God bless.
If you would like to read more about this situation from a local pastor here in Seattle, Click Here.

CW11 (aka KSTW Channel 11) had a promotion going on a few weeks ago for people to send in pictures from a Mariners game they’ve attended this year. My wife and I attended the Toronto Blue Jays vs Seattle Mariners game so I sent in a picture of my wife standing outside Safeco Stadium after the game to see what would happen. The picture was taken with our little $120 Fuji camera so it wasn’t anything special, but we won 2 tickets to the Seattle Mariners vs Anaheim Angels series that is happening right now! It was for the 1st game in the series and Seattle won 2-0. Ichiro hit a triple that was awesome and JJ Putz was pretty outstanding. Rebekah’s favorite though, and I dont know why, is Miguel Batista. She thinks he looks good.
We sat in the first row of the KSTW 11 Suite with the other winners and had a blast. The Mariners Moose even came by to take pictures with the kids! Thanks CW11!

Happy Independence Day everyone! I’ve been having fun with my new Sigma 12-24mm ultra wide angle lens the past two days. I took pictures with it having lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory with Rebekah, waiting in line at Cinerama for the start of Transformers, taking pictures at the new Seattle Art Museum | Olympic Sculpture Park, hiking with my dad at Chiriko Trail near Poo Poo Point on the morning of the 4th and taking some pictures of fireworks tonight at the 4th of Jul-Ivars Fireworks show at Myrtle Edwards Park. The lens is definitely a specialty lens. In general, it isn’t great for people pictures unless you want them looking long or funny. It’s pretty cool for trying out artsy stuff. I’m still trying to figure out the best use for it…

Last year, Rebekah and I went to Gas Works park for the big fireworks show covered by King 5 TV. I remember it was so crazy because it was packed with people and it was a pain just getting there. This year we went to the 4th of Jul-Ivars show normally covered by Komo TV. There weren’t too many people there so I asked a security guard and he said, Ivar’s got sued by someone a few years ago when they fell during the event. I don’t know the details, but that is sad. There were hardly any vendors and it was pretty laid back. I didn’t even hear the music for the fireworks, but the show was still cool.

Saturday was such a beautiful day! We didn’t have a wedding so we took the opportunity to go to the Seattle Mariners game. It was our first game this year. We bought tickets a month ago at almost the exact same seats, but we had an emergency so we didn’t go to that one. Saturdays game was perfect. The weather, the win, and the crazy Canadian fans who came to cheer for the Blue Jays were all great. All these pictures were taken with our Fuji F20 using available light. By the way, it’s so weird Mike Hargrove just quit in the middle of the season especially when the team is doing so well.

I had the honor of photographing my cousin’s wedding last year. I remember I was so excited that I was going to photograph my own cousins wedding. She has always been such a good cousin and I think as she gets older, I’m realizing how big her heart is. If I start to think back, I have so many fond early memories of growing up in America, in large part, due to my cousin and her family. Pictured below is my first Christmas in America. I remember spending the night at their house and looking out the window thinking I saw Santa bring me presents. That first Christmas I received a cowboy vest and toy guns. I don’t remember what Agatha received, but it looks like I want it!

I have other great memories of my cousin. I learned how to ride a bike at their old house in Spanaway, WA. We used to go swimming together and even took trips to New York and a cool camping trip to Crater Lake. Our families used to do all kinds of things together and have these large family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at their house during the holidays. I remember one 4th of July weekend at their house, one of the fireworks buzzed into their garage and caused quite a commotion… I could go on forever with these little stories.
Anyway, back to the wedding. Their wedding was held in Federal Way at St. Vincent de Paul Church. She got married to Joe and I think he is perfect for her. You could really tell how much he loves her.
Here are some pictures my wife, cousin, and I took:

This was the first look Joe was going to have of his bride… guess who cried first?

SHEER JOY! That is how I would describe this image of my adorable niece, Izzy. I was putting together my cousin’s wedding album and I just had to take a break to post this image. It’s amazing how quickly children grow up. Since my sister and their family live in Chicago, we only get to see Izzy a few times a year and it is really amazing how this little baby has grown so quickly… I miss her. I couldnt choose a favorite between the black and white picture vs color so I posted both. Last year we spent Memorial Day weekend in Chicago and she only knew a few words. Now, she speaks so intelligently you would think she was a lot older than she really is. Pictures from last years Memorial day weekend HERE. This year, we won’t get to see Izzy, but I wanted to post something about her.

Most recent picture of Izzy still loving those bubbles!
